ELF tracks both BCTS and SCCF cutblocks by looking at their logging plans as far out on their schedules as possible. When we identify a block that looks interesting, i.e.: has old forest characteristics then we send the block over to Applied Conservation GIS. This consultant overlays the block with existing provincial datasets that provide ecological classifications for the area. The map that we get back includes: the block broken down into polygons showing forest age class, species composition and at-risk plant communities.
