In an August 15th newspaper story published by the Coast Reporter (the lower Sunshine Coast’s weekly newspaper) an article appeared entitled: “Behind the scenes of the harvest ofJoe Smith Creek cutblock”, a BC Timber Sales (BCTS) Blk TA052. The article quoted Mr. Sam Grill of OceanView Logging, the successful logging contractor who bid on the block: “If we hit 10,000 cubic meters it would be $560,000 in revenue to the province.”

The final accounting for the block has not been released at this time to verify the exact volume or stumpage that The Province (Crown) will eventually receive. At the BC Bid Portal, it was noted that Oceanview Logging was the sole bidder using BCTS’s auction model designed to
obtain competitive prices for Crown timber. The bid information revealed that OceanView won the contract by paying $52,000 as a bonus bid, but as mentioned was the only company “bidding.” read more
